Blackpool Victoria Hospital hosts the Macmillan Windmill Unit, a dedicated cancer information and support centre developed in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The unit provides a welcoming, non-clinical environment where people affected by cancer can access high-quality information and support throughout their care and beyond. This includes patients, family members, carers, and friends.

The service offers a confidential drop-in facility staffed by a specialist information support manager, clinical nurse specialists, and trained volunteers. Visitors can receive clear, up-to-date information about cancer, treatment pathways, and living with and beyond cancer, as well as guidance on local and national support services.

Support available at the centre includes:

    • Emotional and practical support in a safe, informal setting
    • Help accessing financial, welfare, and benefits advice
    • Signposting to psychological support, counselling, and complementary therapies
    • Access to wellbeing resources and supportive care information
    • Support for carers and family members
    • Information about research, clinical trials, and specialist cancer services within the Trust

The Macmillan Windmill Unit also plays an important role in personalised care, helping patients navigate their cancer journey and connect with appropriate services across the wider Lancashire and South Cumbria cancer network.

The centre is located within the hospital site and provides a calm, supportive space for anyone needing information or reassurance at any stage of their cancer experience.
